“On the day of the wedding, when we could not make ONE.MORE.DECISION... we did. We decided to move the wedding back an hour and move the dinner from the lawn to inside the house. The rain was POURING, the wind was raging, and the forecast didn’t look clear until 2:30, nor did it look good for the evening.  SO, while Taryn tried to set up flowers on the arbor in the rain, we chose to move all the furniture out of our living room into our garage to make room for dining, set up our dining room for more, and hustled to make the rest of the interior look like a magical wedding venue (no worries as we had THREE HOURS before ‘go time’--phew).

The hectic morning rolled into an amazing afternoon and beautiful evening. With the wedding moved back to 3, we had friends come at 2:30 to move out chairs, set up sound, set up tables, use the blower to blow off the puddles on the path, and do any of the last minute details. At 3:00, skies were gorgeously clear with a nice breeze blowing off the lake.

The wedding was perfect, definitely nothing like what we had planned originally, but perfect nonetheless. I told the kids a while ago that while they won’t have the guests in attendance that they so wanted to have, but they will have a list of supportive people that will be a significant memory of this day. A group of neighbors got together and designed a large banner and bought tons of balloons to put on their piers. Because of the wind, the balloons were tied to Adirondack chairs in the yard next to ours--a stunning display of love and support that brought happy tears. Another neighbor brought TWO of her famous lemon cakes for us to enjoy for desserts--and she ‘just happen’ to make homemade cream puffs filled with crabmeat and chicken salad (wahhhh--just what we needed). Another neighbor is an INCREDIBLE chef and she and her daughter brought over elegant bruschetta bites that were to die for! Another friend made deviled eggs, and prosciutto kabobs. We enjoyed quite the feast after the wedding thanks to our dear friends and will always remember the community support we felt during these days.

Meg was a stunning bride, Tre was a weepy groom, Pastor Dan lead the ceremony in joy, Taryn and David sang, and Henry danced around with a purple bucket on his head. What’s not to love? Later in the day, servers walked around serving wonderful appetizers, we played lawn games, visited with our ‘new’ family, then we all sat down in the house for a candlelit feast. Danielle, from the Apis, was our chef for the evening and everyone RAVED about the food--it was truly unforgettable.

The rain held off for us to get to the deck to dance under the stars and the globe lights and WE ALL WANTED TO DANCE BECAUSE -- THEY MADE IT!! They’re married! And we had to let the joy pop out of us somehow, so dancing it is!! We lit long sparklers on the beach and Tre and Meg ran up the path in a tunnel of sparkle to head out on their honeymoon. After they left, most of the bridal party jumped in the lake! Wet dresses and suits, happy and cool. WHAT. A. DAY.

We are thankful that we had a place to gather in the midst of this crazy Covid season, so thankful for a new family that risked flying here and gathering with us, so thankful for the people that chose to so sacrificially love us through all of the ups and downs. So thankful for a sweet daughter in law, whose family we already treasure, and thankful for the sweetness of love and support woven throughout it all.

Thank you for your prayers, thank you for your tangible expressions of love Tre, Meg (and all of us). We will remember this day as being well loved!”
